Catalina Island Conservancy

The Catalina Island Conservancy’s mission is "to be an exemplary steward of island resources through a balance of conservation, education and recreation.” These principles pair well with the California Challenge Foundation’s Emerald Bay, Catalina program. Sunburst’s Catalina Island experience was enriched with the addition of the Conservancy’s educational program which provided nature-based lessons for cadets as well as training for stewardship of Emerald Bay. The Naturalist 1 training equipped cadets with the understanding of island species, geology and culture of the island which complemented their island experience.
