Student profile: Sunburst Youth Academy helps Hannah create her own path

Our latest OCDE Student Profile shares the story of Hannah, who recently graduated from the Sunburst Youth Academy.

Operated by the California National Guard in partnership with OCDE, Sunburst is a community high school for at-risk youth. Enrolled cadets spend more than five months in a military-style environment that helps them develop leadership, pride and confidence as they earn high school credits.

“I’ve accomplished way more than I thought I would,” says Hannah, who hopes to become a police officer and make her community a safer place.
